Env’t projects benefit from golf for–a–cause
by Jane B. Cadalig

Baguio City’s environmental initiatives got the lion’s share from the proceeds of a sports event for-a-cause.

The Alay sa Kalinisan, Inc. (ASKI); a government and private sector partnership that is at the forefront of preserving, conserving, and protecting Baguio’s environment, was allotted P500,000 from the proceeds of the Mayor Mauricio Domogan Cup held last week.

The anti-graffiti campaign got P100,000 from the P500,000 allotted to the ASKI.

Domogan said the amount given to ASKI is used to augment the budget for additional street sweepers and garbage collectors who are hired by the city government to help in managing the wastes when Baguio hosts massive events.

He said it is through the ASKI allocation that Baguio can immediately employ additional people to help manage the city’s wastes without undergoing the usual tedious process in hiring personnel.

“By hiring additional personnel, we can easily and immediately address the problems on garbage generated during big events in the city,” Domogan said.

The anti-graffiti campaign is spearheaded by a task force, which is among the sectors that are at the forefront of implementing the city’s Anti-Graffiti Code. Youth volunteers from the city’s various barangays also help the task force in the efforts to tidy up Baguio from graffiti vandalism.

Also among the beneficiaries of the annual MGD cup are patients undergoing dialysis at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, patients needing palliative care and medical assistance, Red Cross, day care centers through the Baliktan sa Kaunlaran, and the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club.
