2 towns in Abra now has police station, hall
by Maria Teresa Beñas / PIA

MALIBCONG, Abra – After long years of neglect, the local government unit of this upland town has finally established two of the basic structures in the municipality.

Mayor Benido Bacuyag said these are the municipal building in Barangay Umnap and the municipal police station in Barangay Poblacion.

The municipal building was funded through a loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines in the amount of P9 million payable within a period of five years. The five-year amortization is being paid by the LGU out of its local revenues, particularly the 20 percent Economic Development Fund.

The new municipal hall replaces the damaged hall that was vacated years ago. A bungalow-type building in Barangay Poblacion served as a satellite office for the municipal officials and employees.

Aside from the building construction project, a part of the loan was also used to procure a service vehicle for the Office of the Mayor and a back hoe.

The police station, on the other hand, was funded by the Philippine National Police, which provided P4M for the construction while the LGU provided the lot where it was constructed and fund for the hauling of the construction materials.

Bacuyag recognized the support of the people in the putting up of the structures. He also vowed to establish an all-weather road network within the municipality to provide access to the basic facilities including the three chapels constructed by the Diocese of Bangued.

The mayor also procured the necessary heavy equipment that include a back hoe, loader, bulldozer, and three dump trucks that would facilitate the local road building efforts. These are used in the ongoing opening of the Bangilo-Mataragan Road.
