Happy Palm Sunday

It’s Palm Sunday. Today, we commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on a donkey, a peace animal. This is the day when the people welcomed Jesus with their palms, a symbol of peace and victory. It is also the start of Holy Week. For us, Christians, every year we are reminded of the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sins.

Today, we can start reflecting on how we can keep Jesus in our hearts. How we can try to give more of ourselves to others. How we can make other people happy. It is also the day to get palms to be blessed. It is said that these blessed palms will protect our homes.

People celebrate Holy Week by going on long vacations with loved ones. Television shows go on caravans to entertain people from province to province. Others go on Visita Iglesia of seven or more churches. Some do the Stations of the Cross.

Think of today as your mission day to do something to make Jesus happy.

Today, I also appeal to generous benefactors to make the poor and underprivileged students of St. Jerome’s Academy, St. Tomas Aquinas Library in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya happy. This is in response to Bro Baclig, the library-in-charge, who is appealing to kind hearts to donate some books or to help purchase new ones.

St. Jerome’s Academy was founded in 1951 by the Belgian CICM Missionaries, and since they left, the school has been unable to buy new books or restore dilapidated ones which are in poor condition because of lack of funds.

These books have been in their collection for decades. Most of the students are children of farmers who cannot afford better education in nearby towns of Solano or Bayombong. They would need encyclopedias, story books, novels or anything that will fill in and improve their library collection to uplift the morale of these students. You may contact Bro. Kevin Domingo Baclig, library-in-charge, through 0995-324-0645 or email

May we also invite runners to join the Dr. Charles M. Hamada Memorial Run on May 1, Wednesday, at 5 a.m. at the Burnham Lake Drive. Registration is ongoing at the Laperal Building entrance at Session Road. For interested participants, please contact Che Alberto, race director at 0917-745-0378. Kita kits!

Happy Palm Sunday, everyone!
