Olsim faces Japanese fighter in ONE Warrior Series Japan
by Harley F. Palangchao

ALMOST THERE -- Cordilleran mixed martial arts fighter Jerry Olsim (right) could be the next Filipino to sign a contract for the ONE Championship main roster if he wins against Ryoji Kudo of Japan in the co-main event of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series 8, Oct. 5. -- ONE photo

Team Lakay’s Jerry Olsim is getting closer to signing a contract for the ONE Championship main roster especially when he wins his bout against a Japanese opponent in Tok-yo, Japan, Oct. 5.

The 24-year-old Olsim of Bokod, Benguet is set to face Ryoji Kudo in the co-main event of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series 8: Japan vs. The World.

Olsim, who is undefeated in six professional fights, which include four wins in OWS, hopes to follow the footstep of fellow Team Lakay fighter Lito Adiwang, who signed a six-figure contract with the ONE main roster.

His opponent, Kudo, is popular in the mixed martial arts arena in Japan having earned five wins, one loss, and one draw in Shooto promotion.

Considering his credentials, he has been arranged straight to the co-main event in his promotional debut in OWS.

While competing in the professional bouts, Olsim, together with younger sibling, Jenelyn, has been representing the Philippines in international combat events.

In August, Olsim won silver in the 71-kilogram during the 2019 East Asian Muay Thai Championship in Hong Kong.

His sister, Jenelyn, won a gold medal in the 54-kg.

Meanwhile, ONE announced that the main event in the ONE Warrior Series 8 will be a rematch between Thailand-based American De’von “Bam Bam” Morris and Cambodia-based Nigerian Emmanuel “The Biafran Warrior” Onyedikachi in a welterweight mixed martial arts.

In February, Morris scored a knockout in the second round to ruin his rival’s spotless professional record.

The rest of the card will have a different complexion than usual to mark the first OWS event outside Singapore.

Japanese athletes will be featured in every other bout as they take on competitors from around the world.
