FUTURE OF BOXING -- The undefeated Carl Jammes Martin of Lagawe, Ifugao captured the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight belt with a technical knockout of Benezer Alolod in Mandaluyong on Sept. 20. -- Contributed photo

Rising Filipino boxer Carl Jammes “Wonder Boy” Martin captured the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight belt with a stunning technical knockout of his opponent in Mandaluyong on Sept. 20.

The 20-year-old boxing phenom from Lagawe, Ifugao also kept his unblemished record to 14 wins with 13 by way of stoppage when he floored 28-year-old Benezer Alolod of Cotabato del Sur in the seventh round.

The 5’6” southpaw Cordilleran boxer, who is being touted as the next Manny Pacquiao, was unstoppable with his combinations, even as he surprised his opponent with his powerful right hand blows.

After exchanging blows with Alolod in the early rounds, Martin started the seventh round with right-left solid punches until he caught his opponent with a solid right forcing the referee to stop the fight once the fellow Filipino fighter was on the canvass.

Alolod suffered his 13th loss in 27 professional bouts.

Martin, who turned professional just three years ago, has won one Luzon title and six regional (Asia-Pacific) titles.

Last year, he retained the World Boxing Organization Oriental Youth and World Boxing Association-Asia bantamweight titles.

An Iglesia Ni Cristo devotee, Martin has been praised and congratulated by fellow INC faithful in the country and around the world.
