Kingad, Belingon to face world champs in Tokyo
by Harley P. Palangchao

Philippines mixed martial arts pride Kevin Belingon and Danny Kingad will be in the co-main events of the two full-scale world championship events, which ONE will unfold in Tokyo, Japan on Oct. 13.

ONE Championship top honcho Chatri Sityodtong announced last week that the flyweight world Grand Prix finals between Kingad and former multiple-time Ultimate Fighting Championship champion Demetrius Johnson of the United States will be in the co-main event of ONE: Century.

The Kingad-Johnson bout will be watched by millions of MMA fans around the world, as it would be a battle of Asian and American MMA fighters.

As expected, Kingad will enter the cage as an underdog, while Johnson, who was once the most dominant MMA fighter in the world, is the favorite before fight night.

Team Lakay prospect Lito Adiwang will make his official debut in the ONE main roster, as he will face long-time Pancrase fighter Senzo Ikeda of Japan in the undercard of ONE: Century part one.

The 24-year-old Adiwang, who was undefeated since 2014, has nailed three straight victories in the Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series to qualify him to the ONE main roster. He now has nine wins and two losses.

The 31-year-old Belingon, on the other hand, will have his fourth world title rematch against reigning ONE bantamweight world champion  Bibiano Fernandes in the co-main event of ONE: Century part two.

The third championship rematch between two champions ended to an early disqualification of the Team Lakay fighter due to a controversial call for illegal elbows to the back of the head of the Brazilian fighter during their March 31 match.

Former ONE featherweight world champion HonorioBanario wants to come to the winners’ circle but he will face a formidable opponent in former world ONE lightweight world champion Shinya Aoki in the undercard of ONE: Century part two.

ONE: Century will feature 28 world champions in one night.
