by Ofelia C. Empian

Defending champion University of Baguio Cardinals are on their seven-game winning streak to lead the ongoing men’s basketball eliminations round of the 33rd season of the Baguio-Benguet Education Athletic League.

In last Sunday’s game, the Cardinals beat University of Cordilleras Jaguars by 27 points, 84-57, with a twice to beat advantage in the semis and one game remaining for the Cardinals.

This places the Jaguars third in the team standing with five wins and two losses.

The Cardinals earlier disposed Saint Louis University Navigators in the highly anticipated rematch of last year’s finals, with the Cardinals ending the game at 85-45 at the Navigators’ homecourt SLU Prince Bernhard gym. SLU Navigators is now in the second spot of the team standing with 5-2 record.

The Cordillera Career Development College Admirals, meanwhile, scored a huge upset Sunday evening after edging SLU, 91-56, in the other eliminations game, and improved their record to 5-2 to hang on to the number four spot of the team standings.

Baguio College of Technology is now on the fifth spot, 4-3, followed by Baguio Central University on sixth, 3-4, and Philippine Military Academy, 2-5.

Pines City Colleges has 1-7 record and Benguet State University has 0-7 win-loss record.

On the women’s side, UC is the league leader on the first round with 3-0 followed by SLU with 2-1, UB with 1-2 and PMA with 0-3.

With the ongoing second round, the Lady Jaguars aim to duplicate their first-round win as they have 2-0 record as of Oct. 28.
