A caddie-cum-golf coach emerged as this year’s top winner in the 2nd Benguet Electric Cooperative Golf Cup while a 12-year-old player from Mankayan, Benguet won the longest drive award on weekend.

Golf coach Sonny Liwan edged fellow coach Fred Puckett with the lone eagle of the tournament to win the lowest net of 64 for the overall champion while the latter settled for the lowest gross title.

Junior golfer Lance Sab-it of Lepanto National High School in Mankayan fired 319 yards at hole 11 at Pine-woods Golf & Country to win the longest drive award, which is usually won by seasoned parbusters.

Pol Mayos had two birdies and 10 pars to win the men’s A with a net of 69 followed by Winnie Bautista and Goody Ignacio, who also had a net of 69 apiece.

Bautista also won the most accurate drive at hole 12 with only 1.7 meters from the line while Jess Ambucay won the nearest to the pin at hole four.

All top three winners of men’s B led by Councilor Mike Lawana as champion had nets of 73 but were ranked based on System 36. Trailing Lawana were Rex Buyuccan and Nap Rosito.

Raul Cadiogan had a net of 77 to win the men’s C championship trophy followed by Zaldy Neg-radas and Bernard Capuyan.

Epi Gestion won the ladies division with a net of 75 followed by Vanessa Bango with net of 83.

Beneco Asst. General Manager Melchor Licoben reported that 130 of the 153 players who registered have played, making the event one of the most attended golf tournaments in Baguio.

Licoben and Beneco Director Jeff Acop have distributed financial assistance to various groups and individuals who are mostly sick.

Licoben thanked all the sponsors, partners, and players for making the golf tournament successful, saying the proceeds will help those in need.
