Baguio and La Trinidad shared the limelight in the team event of the 2nd Adivay Golf Cup held at Camp John Hay and Pinewoods Golf & Country Club on weekend.
The Baguio team of Manny Solis, Ed Montenegro, Bayani Tecson, Tony Fernandez, and Romy Tio won the overall champion with an aggregate score of 172 points in the team play held at the par-68 CJH fairway.
Fernandez and Tio powered Team Baguio with 45 modified Stableford points apiece for the title.
La Trinidad A won the championship among teams that represented all 13 towns of Benguet with total points of 168.
Bernard Capuyan and Glenn Lonogan had 44 points each, Nestor Pablo and Bond Mangaoang contributed 40 points apiece, while Alexander Pumecha delivered 38 points for La Trinidad A.
Team Mankayan A composed of Novy Mendoza, Sammy Sab-it, Ramir Badua, Jeremiah Guanso, and 12-year-old Lance Sab-it collected an aggregate of 165 points for the first runner-up finish.
Guanso collected 51 points, the highest individual points during the team event.
The Buguias team composed of Rey “Godzilla” Angel, Arnel Peil, Donato Bacquian, Willie Enciso, and Rody Lockey collected 164 points for the second runner-up finish.
More than 140 players saw action during the team event where Philip Kiat-ong won the most accurate drive while Paul Diaz clinched the nearest to the pin special award.
Coach Jobert Casignia fired 280 yards to win the longest drive award.
The following day saw close to a hundred parbusters competing in the individual play at the par-72 Pinewoods fairway.
Local coaches Rae Dayasen and Chester Calpotura also shared the limelight for winning the lowest gross and lowest net awards, respectively.
Dayasen holed out an eagle, two birdies, and five pars for net of 65 while Calpotura was just one-over for a gross of 73.
Manny Obrera had a gross score of 76 to win the men’s A followed by Soc Suayan and Winnie Bautista, who had 76 (but with higher handicap) and 78, respectively.
Gimbel Masahoy fired a gross of 84 to win the men’s B followed by Rene Pasiwen and Fred Sab-it with 81 and 82 in that order.
The men’s C championship trophy went to Myrick Campos who had a gross of 97 followed by Charo Gallardo and Rod Fronda, who both had 94 gross.
Chris Seraphin fired a gross of 87 to become the lone winner in the ladies division.
This year’s organizing committee led by tournament chairman Junjun Bantales did a great job in ensuring the success of the tournament that serves as a venue for local parbusters to compete representing the 13 towns of Benguet and Baguio, according to Benguet Board Member Juan Nazarro.
The tournament also raised funds for the financial needs of indigent patients from Benguet.
