WBC honors Santig anew
by Harley F. Palangchao

Cordillera’s top boxing promoter Brico Santig will be conferred the World Boxing Council Asia “Pacific Region Promoter of the Year 2018” during ceremonies in Bangkok, Thailand this month.

Police Gen. Kevin Bhakdibhumi, WBC Asian Boxing Council president, informed Santig that he is among the sports luminaries who will be honored on May 22.

Other sports luminaries from the Philippines and all over the Asia Pacific Region will be honored during the annual WBC Asia/WBC Muay Thai Annual Awards.

Reports said that JC Manangquit of General Santos City is one of the awardees.

The 26-year-old Manangquit will get the “Archipelago Zone Promoter of the Year 2018.” He is the president of the Sanman Boxing Promotion.

Last year, Santig and fellow Filipino promoter Gabriel Elorde were likewise honored during the WBC Asia annual awards.

Santig, manager of the La Trinidad-based Highland Boxing Gym, received the WBC Asia Oriental Promoter of the Year for promoting boxing in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India in 2017.

It was the third consecutive time that Santig was honored by the WBC Asia. He was named the “World Boxing Council Asia Honorary Promoter of the Year 2016.”

In 2015, Santig received two major awards from two prestigious boxing organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.
