BSU students conduct sports clinic in Balili
by Carlos K. Mama-o Jr.

KNEE STRIKE -- Coach Edzel Ngina, a national Muay Thai coach and a DPE student, supervises participants during a Muay Thai training as part of the BSU-IHK sports clinic at Balili National High School in Mankayan, Benguet held May 3 and 4. -- Justine  Laosi

To train students, teachers and coaches new skills and techniques in their different sport events, the Diploma in Physical Education students (DPE) of Benguet State University-Institute of Human Kinetics (BSU-IHK) conducted a two-day sports clinic at the Balili National High School (BNHS) in  Balili, Mankayan, Benguet May 3 to 4.

The sport events focused on basketball, volleyball, futsal, chess, Muay Thai, and taekwondo. First aids for common sport emergencies were also discussed during the two-day training.

BNHS teacher and coach Sharmine Nguaban said the activity enhanced the skills of the students. She, however, suggested that the event be extended in order for the participants to fully internalize the new skills.

Twinkle Bulsao, one of the participants, also bargained for another sports clinic to be conducted in their school to encourage more students to be more active in sports.

The sports clinic was made possible through the coordination of the host school’s faculty and staff headed by principal I Gloria B. Cadap and BSU-IHK DPE students.

The activity was participated in by 40 students, out-of-school youths, and coaches from Barangay Balili.

DPE is a program offered by BSU-main campus under the IHK to any bachelor degree graduates who intend to take physical education as another field of specialization. The DPE program can be completed in two years. Subjects are offered on Saturdays during regular semesters and daily during midyear term.
