BSU-NWU dual sports meet held in Laoag
by Carlos K. Mama-o Jr.

The Benguet State University and North Western University have embarked on their second edition of Dual Sports Meet hosted by NWU in Laoag, Ilocos Norte recently as a way of strengthening their partnership.

Powerhouse BSU has dominated all the events during the three-day event that was power packed with events like baseball, football, volleyball, and sepaktakraw.

One of the highlights of the friendly competition was the “Empanada Night” which showcased socialization and awarding ceremony.

Abram Chumacog, BSU’s football player, said he and his teammates enjoyed the activity due to the good accommodation aside from winning the competitions.

Clark Sotero, a volleyball player, said the dual sports meet became an avenue for them to improve their skills and athleticism.

Kalvin Jake Awas, chairman of Sports and Wellness Program of BSU, said the dual meet is an important event because it provides varsity athletes additional exposure in high level competition aside from the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (Carasuc) Meet and the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League where BSU is a consistent competitor.

Ceasar Balacwid, chair of Fitness and Sports Coaching and also a football coach, said the two universities should encourage other schools and universities to be part of the competition.
BSU and NWU Dual Meet started in 2018 as a way to strengthen the partnership of the two schools.

The first edition was hosted by BSU where student-athletes competed in taekwondo, basketball, sepak takraw and table tennis.
