Fitness enthusiasts in Baguio City proved their prowess in the recently concluded “Battle of the North” crossfit challenge.

Crossfit athletes Brecker Mendoza placed second while Razul Magdalaga placed third in the event held at Crossfit Katipunan, Quezon City on Feb. 10.

The duo led over 80 participants from Baguio, including Pompidou Golangco of CrossFit Baguio Gym, who joined close to 150 participants from different gyms in the north.

The event was organized by Affiliate Alliance, which is a community composed of several Crossfit gyms in the Philippines committed to promoting elite fitness, health, wellness and crossfit.

Crossfit, which originated in Washington D.C., U.S.A. is a workout focused on constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement drawing on categories and exercises such as calisthenics, Olympic-style weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman-type events, plyometrics, body weight exercises, indoor rowing, aerobic exercise, running, and swimming. It was designed in 2000 by Greg Glassman.

Apart from the crossfit challenge, Baguio Team also participated in the Spartan race on Feb. 9 in Vermosa, Imus, Cavite.

Spartan race is an obstacle event that features different fitness strengths through physical, mental, tactical, and team-based giving motivation for those with something to prove.

“Baguio’s interests in sports are becoming highlighted as some of the representatives are strong enough to show the best of themselves anywhere in the country and internationally,” Golangco said.
