Trail run with tree planting set July 27
by Ofelia C. Empian

Outdoor running enthusiasts will not only go through the scenic trail route of Camp John Hay but will also participate in a tree planting activity during the Trail Fest 2019 set July 27.

The run features 3-kilometer kiddie category, 5K for beginners, 16K “trail love,” and the 21K “wild horse” category during the event organized by the local running group Team Malaya.

“It is a celebration and appreciation of all our fellow trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts who have been with us through the years but anyone is welcome to join,” the organizers said.

Most of the expected participants are runners who have been joining the various trail runs organized by Team Malaya through the years including the Rice Terraces Marathon in Hungduan, Ifugao; Sagada Marathon in Mountain Province; The Last Stand of Yamashita in Hung-duan and Kiangan, Ifugao; and Benguet Gold Rush in Itogon and Kibungan Run in Benguet.

Organizers said the event is in line with the Arbor Day Act of 2012 or Republic Act 10176, which calls for citizens, who are at least 12 years old, to plant one tree every year.

A registration fee of P450 is set for the 3K, P550 for the 5K, P850 for the 16K, and P950 for the 21K. The registration comes with event shirts and trophies for the top three finishers in all categories while additional finisher’s medals will be given to the 16K and 21K participants.

For more information and registration, visit www.teammalaya.org/trail-fest or visit Toyville at the ground floor of Baguio Centermall and Flycatcher Yoga Studio at the third floor of La Azotea building at Session Road for onsite registration.
