Nueva Vizcaya bikers Jason Omalio and Haiffa Joyce Miranda topped the recent Tour de Mountain Province, which was safely staged  on Dec. 28 despite the unprecedented rains.

Hundreds of bikers went around the scenic province passing through the towns of Sagada, Besao, Tadian, Bauko and Sabangan during the one-day event.

Omalio topped the grueling event, finishing the race in four hours, 45 minutes, and 22 seconds; followed by Randy Boots Miranda with 5:00:36, and Arman Caritativo on third  place with 5:00:38.

Miranda ruled the overall female category, 6:58:15, followed by Ma. Josephine Liao of Quezon City, 7:17:00. Mitch Relizan of La Union eased on third place in 7:44:13.

George Vincent Alcido of Baguio won the 17 years old and below category followed by Rara Tarnate and Reynan Garinggo, both of Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Adam Wilson David of Tabuk City topped the 18 to 30 years old category followed by Bontoc’s Leni Luck Chaluyen and Silvestre Lumetic of Tabuk.

Andrew Chinalpan of Sagada ruled the 31 to 45 years old male with Louie Andrada of Baguio and Philip Lim Aldean of Quezon City trailing him.

The female side of the same category saw Krystel Aubrey Lance of Baguio placing third followed by Asha Vallador of Baguio and Erlinda Poyagen of Bontoc.

Meanwhile, Rosendo Lejao of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya  topped the 46 and above category followed by Rommel Saguilot of Baguio City and Joel Francis Licayo of Sabangan.

The 80-kilogram and above saw Paul Padilla of Santiago City, Isabela ruling the event followed by Mike Tenzing Gumangan of Lagawe, Ifugao and Samuel Egsaen of Luna, Apayao.

The event was organized by Philippine Red Cross Mountain Province Chapter and Mountain Province Athletic Team in partnership with CODA Lines, Smart Communications and Department of Tourism-Cordillera.

Robert Pangod of  the Philippine Red Cross MP chapter said only 91 of the 109 registrants participated in the event due to the rain while five bikers failed to finish after suffering from minor abrasions and bike damages.

The top three overall champions received trophies and cash prizes while age categories and big man category received trophies.

“The leg 2 of Tour de Mountain Province will be on April 2019. The municipal police stations in all towns, barangay peacekeeping action teams, disaster reduction management offices, ER-26 Mountain Province, all LGUs, managed the traffic and aid stations along the route,” Pangod said.
