Japanese fighter to challenge Kingad in ONE: Hero’s Ascent

Baguio’s flyweight title contender Danny Kingad has been added in the main cards of the ONE: Hero’s Ascent against a tough Japanese opponent when ONE Championship returns to Manila on Jan. 25.

The 23-year-old Kingad just passed an acid test in his promising mixed martial arts career when he emerged victorious against the hard-hitting Yuya Wakamatsu in September 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It was that fight that Kingad, for the first time, dropped by a hard right hand of the Japanese fighter. Kingad has admitted having fought one of the toughest flyweight fighters in the world.

The Kingad-Wakamatsu epic battle is one of the top five bouts of ONE Championship in 2018.

This time, Kingad is facing another young veteran MMA fighter in Tatsumitsu Wada, a 30-year-old Japanese fighter who have fought in various MMA promotions before he signed with ONE.

Kingad has to train harder this time as the Japanese fighter easily defeated Filipino fighter Eugene Toquero with a first-round rear-naked choke in November 2017.

The Japanese fighter was undefeated since 2014 until he lost to Filipino-Australian Reece McLaren via split decision in July 2018.

Wada, since turning pro in 2008, has fought and defeated some of the finest Japanese and Korean fighters the past 10 years.

But Kingad has overcome and defeated some of the top contenders for the ONE flyweight belt. He owns the most wins in ONE Championship flyweight division among all Team Lakay fighters.

Kingad’s lone defeat in ONE was in November 2017 when he fought former ONE flyweight world champion Adriano Moraes.

ONE, meanwhile, announced that one star who is set to compete in Manila is Thai prodigy Rodtang  “Iron Man” Jitmuang-non, who will aim to build on his awe-inspiring debut when he dominated Sergio Wielzen for three rounds recently.

Rodtang will step back into the cage to face Tunisia’s Fahdi Khaled in a flyweight Muay Thai match-up.
