FIRST BLOOD -- The Yokohama champions, Carlos Anton and son Iñigo, kicked off 2019 with respective wins by topping the first round of the Philippine Autocross held in Navotas. -- Contributed photo

Baguio’s racing tandem Carlos and Iñigo Anton made their presence strongly felt in the country’s racing community by topping the Philippine Autocross 1st round held during the Navotas Festival.

The Yokohama racing champions, who were on board their Mark Young-Castrol-Mohspeed racing machines, took home the “best time of the day” and the “open championship” crowns.

The older Anton nailed the day’s quickest time to dominate the experience modified C, all-Honda, and front-wheel drive class.

His 14-year-old son took the best time in the open class to notch up his first overall win in that championship round.

“It’s fantastic that the first round went to us with Iñigo.  Now that he is no longer a novice after sweeping the championship last year, he has matured and showed that he can already match all the veterans, including me,” said the multiple racing champion Anton of his son.

The results, however, did not reveal the whole story of the race as the Antons battled with car troubles all day en route to victory in the end.

The Honda EF of the younger Anton first suffered a broken fan belt then the fuel pump expired, and as the Grade 9 Achievers Academy student headed for the finish line during his first run, the drive shaft snapped ending his first heats.

The younger Anton was forced to shift racecars and use the Honda CRX of his father that he is not that familiar with.  He did the best he could to adjust and was able to still post the fastest time of the day for the open class.

The Antons, who have been bringing pride and glory for the Cordillera racing community, are backed by Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Mohspeed, No Fear, MPTurbo, Castrol, JSD Autosport, Special Stage, Carporn racing, Parts Pro PH, Kilton, and Kart Plaza.
