Upcoming highland warriors to face tough foes in Aringay
by Ofelia C. Empian

Highland athletes will temporarily escape the cold temperature, as the mixed martial arts and kickboxing challenge take the heat to the Man of Steel Ampitheater in Aringay, La Union on March 16.

The back-to-back event for-a-cause organized by the Kafagway MMA, Amazing Sports Promotions and the municipality of Aringay will feature upcoming MMA and kickboxing athletes from the highlands, who will go head-to-head with promising athletes from the lowlands.

Bannering the MMA main event are Xavier “El Calibre” Villanueva from University of Baguio Team Kafagway and Taro Barrientos of Lakay San Fernando.

The co-main event presents Villanueva’s teammate Daryll “The Real” Bagangao, who will be up against Cesar “The Problem” Paragas of the UGB/Metro Muscles Gym.

In the kickboxing main event, Felex Dave “Jacko” Cantores of Sablan National High School-Team Kafagway will battle Lagasca Lizalis Rommel of the UB Dare Team in the bantamweight division.

Cantores, a world bronze medalist of the 1st World Youth Martial Arts Masterships in South Korea in 2017, will try to bounce back from his loss against Korean Taeho Park in last year’s MMA event in Marikina City.

Daryle “Fearless” Wadasen of Tublay School of Home Industries-Team Kafagway will face John Rey Galanto of UB Dare Team. The grade 11 Wadasen is expected to put up a fight to maintain his winning streak of three.

The event for-a-cause is also backed by Underground Battle MMA, Dinawis, and MMA Strikers, among other sponsors.

“(This is) in support to our beneficiary child, Jaden Gil Lesing, who needs an immediate liver transplant due to biliary atresia, a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts,” the organizers said.

The family of the 15-year-old beneficiary has put up a “Go Fund Me” account for Jaden.

“Expenses before, during, and after the procedure are way beyond our means. Our savings are already depleted. Your donations will help us make the liver transplant possible the soonest,” the family stated.

Those who want to donate may send a message to Jaden’s mother Pauline Solano Lesing through Facebook or send donations through bank account: Pauline S. Lesing, Banco de Oro SM Baguio Branch with account  number 001830260837.
