Gracious in defeat, former ONE flyweight world champion Geje Eustaquio has not uttered words against the newly-minted world champion despite protests from fans.

Adriano Moraes defeated Eustaquio via unanimous decision in their five five-minute round championship bout in ONE: Hero’s Ascent at the Mall of Asia Arena on Jan. 25.

“I thought I was winning the fight but I respect the decision of the judges. I have to take it possibly to become a better fighter,” said Eustaquio in a post-fight interview.

When the decision in favor of Moraes was announced, the 29-year-old Eustaquio kneeled down to show respect to the Brazilian champion, who reciprocated such gesture inside the cage.

By some indications, Eustaquio and Moraes want to face different opponents in the future especially that the grand prix for the deep flyweight division has just started.

The grand prix features bouts among the top flyweight contenders to now include Eustaquio, Danny Kingad, and former Ultimate Fighting Championship champion Demetrius Johnson, among others.

Fans are still not satisfied with the decision, forcing ONE chief operations officer ChatriSityodtong to come to the defense of the judges.

In a lengthy post on social media, Sityodtong explained that ONE uses the global rule set which scores the fight in its entirety, not round-by-round.

This means that a fighter is declared a winner if he has scored the main scoring criteria, which are near knockout or near submission; damage (internal, accumulated, superficial); striking combinations and cage generalship (ground control/superior positioning); and earned takedowns or takedown defense and aggression.

Sityodtong’s post has since been taken down, as throngs of fans stood their ground that the decision was unfair.

Meanwhile, in a spirited clash between two top flyweight contenders, former ONE world title challenger Danny “The King” Kingad turned in a well-rounded performance, defeating Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada of Japan by unanimous decision.

For three full rounds, it was Kingad who got the better of the standup exchanges. When the action hit the mat, Kingad also displayed superior grappling skills.

The undefeated Lowen Tynanes retained his perfect record with a first-round finish of former ONE featherweight world champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario in a ONE lightweight world grand prix quarter-final matchup.
