Tublay civic bike race set Aug 25

Rain or shine, mountain trail biking enthusiasts will converge in Tublay, Benguet to test their speed and stamina for a bike for-a-cause Aug. 25.

The 1st Tublay mountain bike for-a-cause will start with various age categories: 40 years old and up, 30 to 39 years old, 21 to 29, 20 under, and a female category.

“Come and enjoy the mountain roads of Tublay while you test your speed and stamina with your bikes,” organizers said.

Gun starts at 7:30 a.m. at the municipal gym at Km. 13 in Acop then mountain bikers will proceed to Kapangan Road entering the uphill barangay road of Baayan going to Sitio Sayatan junction. From there, participants will follow the Pinanday Road going up to Sitio Belong in Ambassador, which is an off-road adventure for bikers. 

Bikers would then go to Km. 17 along the Halsema Highway down to Km. 16 in Sitio Coroz going past Tabeyo Road then to Km. 20, also of the Halsema Highway.

It would then be a race to the finish line, as bikers would go back to the municipal gym to complete the 35-kilometer bike race.

There will be no cut-off time during the whole day event.

Prizes will be given to the top 10 of each age bracket and a medal for all finishers. Top group finishers will also be awarded.

Participants who use any kind of bike may join the event, except for electric bikes, according to organizer18-Degree Outdoor Club in coordination with the local government unit of Tublay. 

Registration is ongoing at P500 per biker inclusive of finisher’s medal and post-race meal for the event also backed by Lagalag MTB and Team Ulaw.

Interested participants may register at Lagalag Baguio at Casa Vallejo building, Upper Session Road; Dangwa compound 3rd floor admin office, look for Kiff; Dap-Ayan Cafe at the Benguet State University Compound; San Jose School guard house; Highlander Diesel in Shilan, La Trinidad; and Team Ulaw, look for Kim.

Proceeds of the event will be donated to the school children of Dica, Dingalan, Aurora province through school supplies, slippers, and clothes.
