Dr CMH memorial run on May 1 to help BCBC
by Ofelia C. Empian

A memorial run remembering the life of one of the pillars of modern-day community journalism and a former publisher of the Baguio Midland Courier is set on May 1.

The event for-a-cause dubbed “Dr. Charles M. Hamada Memorial Run” will feature five and three-kilometer categories with participants going around the city center.

The event is in memory of the late Dr. Charles Monroe Hamada, former publisher and general manager of the Courier.

Starting line will be at the Burnham Lake Drive with gun start at 5 a.m.

Interested participants may register at the Laperal Building entrance gate along Session Road with the 5K category at P350 and P250 for the 3K category.

The registration fee is inclusive of a race bib and a finisher’s singlet and snacks. Registration will be until noon of April 30.

Prizes await the top three winners for each category of the event that will benefit the civic projects of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club.

For more information, contact race director Che Alberto at 0917-745-0378.

For over two decades, Dr. Hamada’s unparalleled leadership and managerial skills, which blended well with the editorial room, has made the paper a highly acclaimed and perennially awarded community newspaper, making it one of the best weekly papers in the country today.

Dr. Hamada, who was then a barrio doctor, took the helm as publisher and general manager of the Courier after the death of his father, the great old man Oseo, on Aug. 6, 1993. At the age of 61, he joined the Supreme Editor in the great newsroom in the sky on Jan. 8, 2016.
