Obrera, Bustos top Liga golf tourney

Retired police general Manny Obrera and Baguio’s most dominant female golfer Marriane Bustos topped this year’s edition of the Liga ngmga Barangay tournament held at the Baguio Country Club fairways last week.

Obrera and Bustos both fired a gross of 65 for a net of 59 en route to the men’s and ladies’ class A championship, respectively.

Benjie Bariwan had a gross of 68 for net of 59 to place second in men’s class A followed by Courier Editor Harley Palangchao who had a gross of 69 for a net of 59 in third place.

Macky Abriol fired a gross of 74 for a net of 60 to place second in the ladies’ class A.

Supt. Ranser Evasco topped the men’s class B with a gross of 72 followed by Edwin Ganga and Patricio Eswag who had 72 and 76, respectively.

In the men’s class C, Steve Cating had 79 to rule the division followed by Supt. Johnny Balaki and lawyer John Ray Libiran who had 79 and 80 in that order. The former also won the longest drive award.

Aside from winning the most accurate drive, Mavic Tan topped the ladies’ class B followed by Mel Donato and Dee Parker who had 85 and 98.

Dr. Joey Ancheta won the nearest to the pin award.

Liga ng mga Barangay President Mike Lawana thanked the players and sponsors. Proceeds of the tournament will be used for the 2018 Barangay Day celebrations this month.
