LuzProBa belts at stake in boxing-for-a-cause
by Harley F. Palangchao

Three boxing bouts for the Luzon Professional Boxing Association will be in the main cards of a boxing for-a-cause that aims to raise funds for victims of Typhoon Ompong.

Dubbed “Highland Brawl 5,” the event is set at the Peoples Park or Malcolm Square on Oct. 27.

“The event will be one of the humble contributions of the local boxing community in the efforts to help victims of Typhoon Ompong that devastated our localities,” said Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Gym, one of the event organizers.

Co-organized by DMAD-Kings Edward Boxing Promotion, the organizers will also install donation boxes in the area so that those who have extra money to spare, may drop the same in the boxes.

Upcoming boxers Jayson Nicart and Jelbirt Gomera of Highland Boxing will fight for the Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBa) featherweight belt.

Highland’s Eduardo Mansito will also face a still undisclosed opponent for the LuzProBa super featherweight belt.

Completing the title bouts are Melvin Lulu and Romshane Sarguilla of Highland, who will fight for the LuzProBa flyweight title.

All professional bouts are scheduled for eight rounds or less.

Santig and his partner Darwin Miller Dep-ay are calling on donors and benefactors to be part of the event, saying they need more people to successfully run the event.

“We hope to get support from concerned individuals or groups who also want to reach out to the victims through sports,” Santig added.

Santig and Dep-ay, along with their long-time supporters, have been widely promoting boxing in the grassroots level and have conducted similar boxing for-a-cause in Benguet.

Other boxing matches in the undercards will be announced as soon as the fighters and their managers have agreed to the terms of the organizers.
