Calpotura tops BCC golf tourney

PARBUSTERS -- Participants of the monthly Baguio Country Club golf tournament are growing in number steadily with many young and young at heart wanting to be part of the action. The event saw former junior golfer Chester Calpotura topping the event. -- Harley Palangchao

Former junior golfer Chester Calpotura topped anew the monthly Baguio Country Club golf tournament that saw local parbusters dominating the game on weekend.

Calpotura fired a molave points of 54 at the par-61 BCC fairway to edge retired police general Manny Obrera for the top position for having a lower handicap.

He also won the longest drive special award for reaching 311 yards at hole three.

Obrera, who had five birdies, eventually became the champion in the men’s class A guest category followed by Winnie Bautista and Fred Puckett, who had 50 and 49 points in that order.

Perennial Fil-Am championship flight champion member Goody Ignacio topped the men’s class A members division with 51 points followed by Eddie Fianza and Jun Basabica, who had 48 and 47 points, respectively.

Derek Bautista fired 44 points to win as champion in the men’s class B members division with Ramon Aldana and Ed Dirige trailing him with 44 (with higher handicap) and 43 points in that order.

Francis Calanio won the class B guest division with 47 points followed by Marcos Alfonso and Joey Pangilinan.

As usual, the ladies class A members’ division was topped by Marianne Bustos who had 52, which was far better than the scores of male players, followed by Lanie Julian and Wells Gala who had 36 and 30 points, respectively.

Letty Baquilar topped the ladies class B members’ division with 20 points followed by Rose Silverman with 30 while the ladies guest division saw Macky Abriol winning as champion with 39 points followed by Cris Seraphine and Florence Kim with 38 and 37 points.

Retired police general Sam Diciano won the most accurate drive while Ed Poserio won the nearest to the pin award in the tournament that is becoming bigger with the participation of parbusters from Pangasinan, Tarlac, Ilocos, and San Fernando City.
