READYING FOR MONDAX CUP -- Football athletes from Baguio and Benguet and nearby regions will see action in the 1st Mondax Football Cup to raise funds for three patients, including kidney patient, veteran journalist Ramon Dacawi. The event is set at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on May 26 and 27. -- Contributed photo

For a man who spent his whole life giving and serving others, he is uncomfortable being shoved in the limelight, much less talked about in a football cup for-a-cause that bears his name.

Veteran journalist-cum-good Samaritan Ramon “Mondax Dacawi,” helper of the downtrodden, sick, weak, children, sportsmen, student athletes, and the city’s fragile environment, is undergoing dialysis weekly.

The high cost of dialysis takes its toll on anyone but in spite of his condition, Mondax still gets up and holds the hands of others in pain by helping them remedy their own dialysis treatment fees. What sustains him in his four times weekly dialysis treatment is his desire to see his grandchildren grow up, like any other doting grandpa.

Cordilleran Binnadang and Cordilleran Binnadang Football Club have decided to conduct the 1st Mondax Football Cup for-a-cause to honor the humble man, and help two other sick indigent parents of Cordilleran Binnadang student football players.

The football event is set at the Baguio Athletic Bowl on May 26 and 27.

Mondax’s friends can also give any help as sponsors to help him sustain his dialysis sessions through the football for-a-cause.

Sponsorship forms and receipts are available at the Cordilleran Binnadang office at No. 10 Montinola Subdivision, Kisad Road, Baguio City.

Interested good Samaritans may contact Shandelle Sabado at 0936-447-2322 for inquiries about how to become a Mondax Football Cup sponsor. Names of sponsors will be displayed during the tournament as well as mentioned on digital media. Anonymous sponsors can also be accommodated.

Day one will highlight age group categories while day two will have the ladies and men’s open.

The football cup will attract various teams from Baguio, nearby Cordillera provinces and towns, regions 1 and 2, Metro Manila, and south of Manila.

The 1st Mondax Cup aims to pass the hat of sponsorship in any amount in the Baguio community, among friends of Mondax here and abroad, and to anyone who likes to act as a comforting hand to those who carry their pain everyday and hope to make it until sunrise.
