VICTORIOUS -- Jhanlo Mark Sangiao (left), who made his amateur MMA debut at 15 years old, unleashed a series of strikes on Danilo Dangalan for a technical knockout win via ground and pound in the co-main event, while Jon Chris Corton also annihilated Jestoni Lim for a second round TKO via GNP in the main event of Kapangan Invasion 3 held in Kapangan, Benguet on May 5. -- Premalyn Malado

The Kapangan Invasion mixed martial arts tournaments saw the rise of future MMA champions with two fighters below 18 years old showing big hearts for the emerging sports in the world.

Fifteen-year-old Jhanlo Mark Sangiao put a superb performance both in standing and takedown in his amateur MMA debut with a first round technical knockout stoppage due to ground and pound of 25-year-old Danilo Dangalan in the co-main event of the night.

Sangiao, son of Team Lakay founder Mark Sangiao, recorded the fastest victory in just 45 seconds of the first round after a successful takedown followed by a ground and pound before roaring fans in Kapangan, Benguet on May 5.

The older Sangiao was on the cage side witnessing the first ever amateur MMA fight of his son, a national Muay Thai gold medalist.

Fight fans also witnessed how 16-year-old Felex Cantores of Kafagway MMA overcome the onslaught of 24-year-old Carlo Buminaang of Team Lakay in the K1 event of the night.

The Sablan native Cantores absorbed powerful combinations from Buminaang but he managed to fight toe-to-toe until the third and final round with Buminaang winning the bout via unanimous decision.

In the main event, former Pacific Xtreme Combat flyweight contender Jon Chris Corton of Team Lakay dominated Jesstoni Lim of Engage Fight Camp to win a second-round TKO via ground and pound.

The 26-year-old Kapangan native displayed improved grappling skills that complemented his karate and MMA skills.

Team  Lakay’s Javie Espada won via unanimous decision against Rusha Mae Bayacsan in the only female K1 bout of the night. Both fighters have impressed the crowd with their striking and defense skills.

Air Force serviceman and MMA fighter Godwin Langabayan of Buguias, Benguet won over Lakay’s Jared Almazan via referee stoppage due to strikes in round one while Benjie Tabaronza of D’ Elements MMA stopped Lakay’s Aldwin Nicdao with a TKO due to strikes in round two.

Wallen Del Rosario of Bylon Club de JiuJitsu overpowered Estrada Donga-as of Lakay with a second round TKO while Mikael Kristian Ortiz of Lakay San Fernando, La Union won over Dexter Estropia of Mariveles Fitness Club via rear naked choke.

Mike Dawagui of Max Fusion won via unanimous decision against Ison Aguilar of Muay Boran while Mark Valerio of Engage Fight Camp won also via decision against Morteza Minbashi of Iran.

Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin thanked Team Lakay for organizing the out-of-town MMA-K1 tournament that hopes to discover future MMA champions.

Fermin also thanked the private partners, especially Sta. Clara Power Corp. and Peregrine, for supporting the tournament.
