Flowerfest football set March 17 to 18

The latest staging of the Panagbenga Football Cup is set on March 17 to 18 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

Coach Ariston Bocalan, president of Cordilleran Binnadang Football Club said the annual event features various categories per age group.

“The main purpose of the tournament is to promote camaraderie and enjoyment, sportsmanship and fair competition. This will also serve as a promotional activity to enhance the tourism program during the Panagbenga,” Bocalan said.

Games happening on Saturday, March 17, will be futsal three versus three for 10-under boys or those born 2007 and up and 12-under girls, or those born 2005 and up.

For the field games, there will be nine versus nine for 12 under boys or those born 2005 and up, 17 under boys, and 17 under girls, or those born 2000 and up.

Events set on March 18 are the futsal three versus three for 14-under boys and 14 under girls or those born 2003 and up.

Also, there will be field nine versus nine games for the men’s open and women’s open.

The three versus three competition is limited to a maximum of six members while nine versus nine competition is limited to a maximum of 12 members.

Bocalan said to reserve teams they must submit registration forms with fee of P1,000 per team.

Deadline of registration is on March 10. Slots are limited.

The annual sporting event is part of the celebration of the Panagbenga Flower Festival in Baguio City and is expected to draw hundreds of young football athletes from Baguio and Benguet. 

The event, in partnership with the City Government of Baguio, is also geared towards the development of grassroots football in the region in order to train more upcoming athletes with the potential of joining national and even international football competitions.
