Gabutan to see action in Highland Brawl April 6
by Harley F. Palangchao

Mountain Province boxing pride Dayer Gabutan will be back in action when he headlines the “Highland Brawl” against an unnamed opponent in La Trinidad, Benguet on April 6.

Higland Boxing Promotion top honcho Brico Santig told reporters last week that talks are still underway, on who will face Gabutan in the event set at the municipal gymnasium.

“It is expected to be a firework once we complete the talks. We hope to bring back-to-back fight titles,” Santig said.

The 29-year-old Gabutan, a former World Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight champion, was last seen inside the ring in September 2017 where he won against former World Boxing Council-Asian Boxing Council minimum flyweight Roilo Golez via a technical knockout.

Gabutan was supposed to see action in November 2017 in another Highland Brawl edition but Santig opted that his prized fighter gun for a regional title.

“There is no doubt that Gabutan will become world champion again basta sustain nya ang magandang training,” Santig said, who thanked Alpha Construction of Engr. Eddie Ngipol for supporting local boxing.

Gabutan has improved his record to 19 wins, including 10 KOs/TKOs against six losses while Golez dropped to 16-19-1.

Earlier, promoter Darwin Miller Dep-ay of DMAD Promotions, a partner of Highland Boxing, announced that Ifugao pride KJ Natuplag will co-headline the event against Ronnie Campos for the vacant Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation Youth featherweight belt.

Natuplag’s camp has eyed a crack to the OPBF Youth belt after the 21-year-old boxer from Ifugao won the PBF featherweight belt against Danilo Peña via referee stoppage in November 2017.

The Ifugao boxer maintained his unblemished record of six wins since he turned pro in December 2015.
