JKA wins eight golds in karate tourney

Young karatedos from the Japan Karate Association-Young Mens Christian Association Baguio settled for second place overall in the recent 3rd Panagbenga Karatedo National Invitational Championship in Baguio.

JKA-YMCA Baguio amassed eight gold, six silver and four bronze medals in the kata (form) and kumite (sparring) events of the tournament held at the Baguio City High School auditorium.

Winning gold medals were Ezekiel Alexander Paul Sevidal in the novice kata nine to 11 years old; Leo Ibaro in the intermediate kata; Khurt Jesse Lacsigen in the advance kata; Redd Pinhikan and Jan Ross Alba in the novice kata 16 to 18 years old and Khyzer Hans Kapawen in the advance kata.

The two gold medalists in the kumite were Arjant Jevi Ashcroft Thadani and Jan Ross Alba.

Silver medalists in kata were Cedric Vaughn Malia, Jann Russel Angway, Arjant Jevi Ashcroft Thadani, Ithuriel John Sevidal and Angelo Querido, who likewise won silver in advance kumite.

The bronze medalists in kumite were Khyzer Hans Kapawen and Angela Querido, who also won bronze in kata along with Xian Bengwayan, and Jovi Anne Rhaye Angway.

The group of karatedos from Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan won the overall champion with another group from La Union, Pangasinan and Tuguegarao winning the overall 1st runner-up.
