Barlig trek set June 16
by Ofelia C. Empian

A trek in one of the best-kept secrets of Mountain Province is set on June 16 as the “Walk for Humanity” event is slated in the eastern town of Barlig.

The event is the fourth staging of the Million Volunteer Run in the province organized by the Philippine Red Cross-Mountain Province in partnership with the Barlig local government unit.

Trekkers will go through the Latang Rice Terraces, Tupnew hot spring, Allob waterfalls, and Am-ammay Rock, according to Robert Pangod, head of the PRC-MP.

“The entire span is undoubtedly a natural wonder in itself which our team dubbed as ‘Barlig Cluster of Wonders’,” Pangod said.

“(It will be) a very gratifying walk along rice bunds, pine and mossy forests, and creeks,” he added.

Registration fee is at P300 inclusive of jersey/singlet, snacks, foot powder, two raffle bonanza tickets and a chance to win premium prizes in the “egg hunting game.”

Participants will assemble at the Barlig open gym at 8 a.m.

For details and inquiries, visit the Barlig Municipal Tourism Office or the Philippine Red Cross-Mountain Province Chapter at the Capitol Compound in Poblacion, Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Interested trekkers may contact 0997-418-5014 or 0999-991-1801 or 0930-090-7460.

Barlig is a 5th class municipality composed of 11 barangays.

The town is now bent on introducing its various tourist sites that would serve as alternative tourism spots from its nearby famed areas such as Banaue, Ifugao and Sagada, Mountain Province.

The town’s tourism programs would also help in decongesting tourists in these areas and bring them to these hidden wonders in the municipality.

Recently, the town just launched the Barlig-Mt. Amuyao-Kadaclan Trail. The trail will cover the two clusters of Barlig, which will introduce visitors to other tourist spots of the majestic town.
