Folayang, Pacio set for ONE 79
by Ofelia C. Empian

NO LET UP -- Former ONE lightweight Eduard Folayang and Kevin Belingon are busy in their high altitude training in preparation for their fights in Manila on July 27. -- Harley Palangchao

Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang and former ONE strawweight contender Joshua Pacio will face undefeated opponents in the main cards of ONE 79: Reign of Kings in Manila on July 27.

The 34-year-old Folayang will face Aziz Pahrudinov of Russia, who is undefeated with 20 wins and one draw as a professional mixed martial arts fighter.

The 29-year-old and 5’10” tall Russian fighter will have a slight height and reach advantage over Folayang, who stands 5’9.”

“We need to train harder this time because the Russian fighter has fought in legitimate MMA promotions before he signed with ONE. He has won via submissions and technical knockouts, which means he is a good fighter,” Folayang said.

Folayang  has faced enormous challenges throughout his MMA career, as he proved recently that he is on a title hunt following his unanimous decision victory against another previously undefeated Kharun Atlangeriev of Russia, who suffered his first defeat from the Igorot fighter.

The Team Lakay fighter has 19 wins and six losses.

The 22-year-old Pacio, on the other hand, will face Pongsiri Mitsatit, a Muay Thai specialist from Thailand with an unblemished record of nine wins.

Pacio is also on a title hunt after securing back-to-back wins from November 2017 to January this year.

After losing the championship match with Hayato Suzuki for the ONE flyweight world belt in August 2017, Pacio won over Roy Doliguez by knockout last November while he also submitted Ming Qiang Lan of China via rear naked choke last January.

ONE 79: Reign of Kings will be headlined by two-division champion Martin Nguyen and ONE bantamweight title contender Kevin Belingon.

With a professional record of 18-5, the Filipino wushu champion and former world title challenger is known as a fierce competitor with the ability to finish opponents in a variety of methods.

The 30-year-old Belingon owns eight huge knockouts on his résumé and is one of the most feared strikers in ONE Championship’s deep bantamweight division.
