Natuplag camp eyes OPBF youth title bout
by Harley F. Palangchao

VYING FOR ANOTHER TITLE -- Another Ifugao boxing pride, KJ Natuplag, the reigning Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight title, is likely to fight for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation youth title next month in Baguio City. -- Harley Palangchao

The camp of up and coming Filipino boxing pride KJ Natuplag of Highland Boxing Gym is reportedly negotiating if the Ifugao boxer could fight for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) youth title next month.

The bout may materialize depending on how things will be ironed out by the DMAD Boxing Promotions of Darwin Miller Dep-ay, a rising boxing manager in the locality.

The 21-year-old Natuplag recently won the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight title with a sixth-round technical knockout of Danilo Peña in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The Ifugao boxer maintains his unblemished record of six wins since he turned pro in December 2015.

Most of his victories came by way of TKO and KO while his only draw record came in May 2017 against Nestor Junio in Malabon City.

Natuplag has defeated his teammate Bener Santig via TKO in September 2017. Santig is also one of the upcoming fighters out of Highland Boxing Gym.

The DMAD Boxing Promotions has been relentless in promoting boxing in the locality in a bid to discover more potential professional boxers from the Cordillera.

With help from sponsors and local government units, the promotion aims to bring more fights in Baguio and Benguet to bring more exposure for the young and promising talents.

One of the events lined up next month in La Trinidad is an amateur boxing tournament dubbed “Boxing Kontra Droga” with Italian Andrea Cola against Phillip Kurz of Germany headlining the event.

OPBF is a professional boxing organization that sanctions title fights in the Asia and Pacific region.
