RISING STAR -- Carl Jammes Martin, who is trained by his father in Lagawe, Ifugao, became the youngest Cordilleran to win the interim WBC Asian Boxing Council bantamweight title with a TJO win against Artid Bamrungauena in Lagawe, Ifugao recently. Ifugao boxing pride Carl Jammes Martin, dubbed as the next Manny Pacquiao, captured the interim World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council Continental bantamweight title via second round technical knockout of Artid Bamrungauea in Lagawe, Ifugao recently.

The 18-year-old southpaw continues to elevate his status as among the top future of Philippine boxing with his seven straight victories, six of them by way of knockout.

Martin, who is being trained in a backyard gym in Lagawe by his father, Abel, who founded the Ifugao Boxing Stable in the capital town, impressed the boxing world by easily disposing Bamrungauea of Thailand, who is 15 years older than the Ifugao boxer.

Prior to his bout with Martin, the veteran Thai boxer was enjoying a three-win streak coming by way of two KOs and a technical knockout. As a pro, Bamrungauea now has 14 wins and 19 losses.

Martin, who captured the Luzon Professional Boxing Association bantamweight belt in the second quarter of 2017, remains undefeated in seven fights since his professional debut in 2016.

He defended the LuzProBa title against Vincent Bautista in Lagawe in October 2017 before his bout with the Thai boxer.

The LuzProBa title was previously held by another Ifugao boxer, KJ Natuplag, who also started at Martin’s camp before shifting to Highland Boxing Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet.

So far, Martin has not experienced fighting as a pro outside of Northern Luzon as the farthest area where he fought was in nearby Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

The “Wonder Boy” from Ifugao stands at 5’2”.
