Civic run events slated
by Ofelia C. Empian

Running enthusiasts in Baguio and Benguet, including from other provinces, are up for a fun run and lung-busting trail runs as various running events are slated on the weekends this December.

A run for-a-cause for the benefit of Typhoon Rosita-affected residents of Natonin, Mountain Province is set on Dec. 15 at Acop, Tublay, Benguet.

Dubbed as “Survival Run: Takbo para sa kinabukasan,” participants of all ages will go through a three-kilometer route starting at the Tublay municipal gymnasium.

The event is organized by the Sowers of the Living Word Fellowship in partnership with the Cordilleran Binnadang and HTB Fitness.

For more information, interested participants could contact Jinky Tacayan at 0946-736-8314.

Also set on Dec. 15 will be the Camp John Hay Christmas Sunset Run organized by the Youth First Concern Philippines.

The run starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. with three-km category with P350 registration fee, six-km at P750 and 12-km with P950 registration fee.

Registration is open until Dec. 12. Visit the Camp John Hay Christmas Sunset Run Facebook events page for more information.

The evening will be concluded with singing of carols from various groups from the City of Baguio. There will be hot chocolates and marshmallows, coffee and tea at the site, organizers said.

Today, Amihan 50 Trail Ultra will see action at the Camp John Hay which will feature 50-km, 25-km, 10-km and three-km distances.

The kids’s edition started yesterday.

Now on its second year, the trail run will go through the pine tree needles-laden trail of Camp John Hay and will connect towards the Ampucao ridgeline in Itogon, Benguet.

“Amihan also brings their patented feel-good ultra to the trail playground with the fresh scent of pine forest and the cool December breeze of Baguio City. It’s going to be a fun and challenging race as the runners get to take on the high altitude mountain-terrain of Baguio and Itogon while enjoying the sights and attraction of the Cordillera mountain range,” organizers said.
