Benguet son Thornon Lou Sayan saved the Philippine Taulo National Team with a lone silver medal in the 2nd Taulo World Cup Wushu Championships in Yangon, Myanmar recently.

The 27-year-old Sayan of La Trinidad, settled for silver in the men’s nan gun topping other top taulo athletes from around the world.

Sayan is the lone medalist from the roster of world-class athletes from the Philippines who represented the country with their coaches Samson Co and Tony Candelaria.

Sayan, a bemedalled national taulo athlete, made sure that the country will go home with a medal, as two of his co-athletes failed to advance to the medal rounds.

The other male athlete who happens to be from the Cordillera is Daniel Parantac, also of Baguio, and Agatha Wong of Manila.

This year’s world taulo championships attracted more than 80 wushu athletes from 21 countries.

According to Myanmar Wushu Federation, the Taolu World Cup is global level competition and all contenders are required to have one to eight-world ranks.

While they failed to win a medal, Parantac and Wong are world-rated wushu taulo athletes.

Parantac, who traces his roots to Sadanga, Mountain Province, is a 2014 Asian Games and 2013 World Wushu Championship silver medalist and a two-time Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold medalist.

Wong, on the other hand, is the 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist in her first try, is also a SEAG gold medalist.
