MPGCHS intrams opens
by Erlindo Agwilang

BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School (MPGCHS) 2018 Intramurals Meet opened on July 27 with the theme, “Intelligence in games, sportsmanship, and og-ogfo make champions.”

Atty. Cyphrine Maxcel Dalog, chief of staff of the Office of the Congressman of Mountain Province, who served as guest speaker of the program, cited the aptness of the event’s theme.

“It is appropriate because it focuses on the value of intellect, gamesmanship, and demeanor in the way we all should look at life; be it in sports, education, family, social relations, and the like,” she said.

“A huge contributing factor to one’s intelligence through games is interaction as it has its merits in your collaboration as a team in order to claim victory while socializing through games offer the advantage of exposing you to interactive situations, where you are likely to be faced with the unfamiliar and the unexpected,” she added.

Dalog said having true sportsmanship is being able to transform one’s personal sports experience into a positive experience, not only for himself but also for those around him by being honest and sincere in accepting results.

She reminded the students of the spirit of og-ogfo, a Bontoc cultural practice of “bayanihan,” which has been taught and passed on by great ancestors and whose attributes have led the Bontoc people to prevail in the past.

Bayanihan, which is still very evident among the Bontoks in Mountain Province and in other Cordillera communities, has been a means of demonstrating one’s concern to his neighbor by extending help in time of need without expecting something in return.

The opening of the MPGCHS intramurals sports meet was also highlighted by the respective yells by students per year level and the oath of amateurism led by Rozdale Managtag, including the declaration of the 2018 intramurals by Lee Patingan.

Federated Parents-Teachers Association (FPTA) vice president Viola Okko, MPGCHS principal Atkinson Tudlong, the different department heads, faculty, and other guests also attended the activity.
