Katiandagho fails to win WBC, WBA region titles
by Harley F. Palangchao

Benguet-based Sonny Katiandagho failed to capture two regional (Asia) boxing titles after losing to a Chinese boxer in Qingdao, China on July 27.

The 24-year-old Baishanbo Nasiyiwula clinched the vacant World Boxing Association Asian super lightweight and the vacant World Boxing Council-Asian Boxing Council super lightweight belts with a unanimous decision win against Katiandagho.

The 25-year-old Katiandagho, who trains out of La Trinidad-based Highland Boxing Gym, suffered his third defeat in 15 professional bouts.

The Chinese champion, on the other hand, improved his record to 14 wins, two losses, and one draw.

Katiandagho, the former World Boxing Council-Eurosia Pacific Boxing Council welterweight champion, vowed to come back strong, saying he learned a lot from the latest championship bout.

Earlier this year, Katiandagho captured the interim Philippines Boxing super lightweight title with a technical knockout win over Junar Adante.

Another Highland boxer in Gilbert Gomera also fell to Can Xu via a technical knockout in one of the undercards.

The 26-year-old boxer from Sultan Kudarat, now a resident of La Trinidad, suffered his fifth defeat in 18 professional bouts.

Gomera has captured the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation silver featherweight belt against Omrri Bolivar in Palawan in November 2017.
