Bakun athletes to join Palaro
by Patricia E. Alicay

The remote town of Bakun, Benguet shines in sports as two of its athletes will be part of the Cordillera delegates to join Palarong Pambansa hosted by Vigan City, Ilocos Sur from April 15 to 21.

Kentmar Banario, 12 years old and a Grade 6 pupil of Ampusongan Elementary School, will compete in the track and field events after he garnered a gold medal in high jump, fourth place in javelin throw, and sixth place in discus throw during the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association Meet 2018 in Bangued, Abra this February.

A 10th grader of Bakun National High School Main, Jundey Bagano Dion, will see action in Palaro 2018 after he won first place in long jump and sixth place in triple long jump, also during the regional meet.

Bakun Councilor Marciano Kig-isan Jr., chair of the committee on sports, said that since the allocated funds were already spent during the recent local meet, he assured the athletes that his committee will allocate incentives in the next budget for future winning athletes especially in regional and national competitions.

Kig-isan added the local government of Bakun is proud of the athletes who brought honor to the municipality, deserving to be recognized probably after the Palarong Pambansa.

The regional athletic delegation including Banario and Dion has travelled to Vigan City to gain ample training and to condition themselves with the climate before the biggest sports league for elementary and secondary athletes starts.
