BBEAL to receive P200K cash assistance from PSC
by Ofelia C. Empian

The Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League will receive a P200,000 fund assistance from the Philippine Sports Commission to augment the operation of the 31st BBEAL season.

University of the Cordilleras Athletic Director Danilo Cong-o said that PSC Chair William Ramirez has confirmed the amount, which is lower than the earlier promised amount of P500,000.

“The amount from PSC if given will be used to purchase sports equipment for easier liquidation,” Cong-o said.

He said based from the meeting of the technical committee of the BBEAL, they have pegged their budget for the latest season to be at P665,000.

“These includes, operational expenses, officiating fee, purchase of equipment and supplies, among others,” he said.

Cong-o said member-schools of BBEAL have an annual fee of P55,000, which is where they also get operational expenses to run the annual collegiate sports games.

He said they are waiting for the PSC to process the amount to be downloaded to the BBEAL.

Ramirez, during a meeting in March this year with members of the BBEAL technical committee, has promised to give the aid as technical financial assistance for BBEAL’s upcoming Season 31 and has encouraged the league to start a social program targeting the community.

Kings College of the Philippines is host of this year’s BBEAL.

First phase events include chess, arnis, swimming, badminton, wushu, sepak takraw, table tennis, archery, baseball, and futsal.

Karate, Muay Thai, and weight lifting will be played on the second phase.

The 30th season’s champion University of the Cordilleras Jaguars will seek to defend their crown especially in the tightly contested and games’ highlight – men’s basketball.
