Anton is youngest Slalom PHL race champ at age 13

At age 13, Baguio’s race driver Iñigo Navarrete Anton is the youngest ever national champion in the 30-year history of Slalom racing after wrapping up the 2017 National Novice Slalom Championship with two races to spare after winning the 10th round of the event in Manila recently.

In sum, the Castrol-Yokohama race driver and son of racing champion Carlos Anton won a total of nine overall wins to become the undisputed champion over Vegil Calayo of JAF racing and Powee Base of PNNS motorsports.

Anton said he felt confident driving the Mark Young  Mohspeed prepared by Honda EF with 190 horsepower in all the 10 legs of the Slalom series.

“I thank the Lord and Mama Mary for always keeping me safe in the races.  I’m so happy to win the 2017 title after switching from go karts back to full size cars. I did not expect it,” said the 8th grader of Baguio Achievers Academy.

His father, Carlos, said he is humbled by the many accomplishments of his son, who also excels in academics and other extra-curricular activities.

“I only prayed for one overall novice win this year when Iñigo started the Slalom racing. I never realized he would be a phenom and make history by taking home the title,” said the older Anton.

At present, the younger Anton is   preparing for the Asian Auto Gymkhana Grand Prix in Taiwan where he was invited to participate and showcase his skills as the youngest Slalom champion from the Philippines. He will be accompanied by his father and Slalom King Milo Rivera, who hopes to repeat their victory in Korea earlier this year.

The Antons are supported by Castrol, Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Mohspeed, Kilton, Kart Plaza, Works Bell Japan, Fix Stop, JSD Autosport, Ross Jackes and Special Stage.
