Adivay car race set in La Trinidad Nov 18–19
by Harley F. Palangchao

Car race enthusiasts from all over the country will see action in the Summit Sprint 3: Kings of the West Wing set along the stretch of Shilan-Beckel Road on Nov. 18 and 19.

The event, which is an on-road and individual uphill time race covering 2.5 kilometers, will determine the best in the business among local racers.

“The main aim of this event, as with our previous events, is to promote safe and legal motorsports events in Benguet and to attract a different sector of tourists to come and experience the Adivay Festival in a high adrenaline event while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the highlands,” the organizers said.

Under the event rules, each participant will be given two heats or attempts to go through the racecourse and complete the course from point A to B in the shortest time possible. The racers who will nail the shortest times will be declared winners.

Chief scrutinizing officer Marvin Herrera and race director Mark Quinto will screen all participants to ensure they met all standards. Each car will be classified to compete under a specific category based on engine displacement, lightening, and other components.

The organizers said rules to be adopted would be based on international motorsports standards.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver releasing the organizers, sponsors, and all governing bodies of all liabilities regarding their participation to the event.

Race organizers thanked the provincial government of Benguet for making the race an official activity of the Adivay Festival 2017, as well as the municipal government of La Trinidad and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The assistance of radio communication groups, La Trinidad police, Benguet Provincial Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and barangay officials and tanods of Shilan and Beckel were also sought to ensure the continued safety of all participants and the general public as well.

“With the growing passion of motorsport enthusiasts from all over the country, Summit Sprint has slowly gained local and national media attention. It has also been praised by international racing groups and enthusiasts in the social media,” the organizers added.
