La Trinidad kids to compete in three–day sports tourney
by Alexa Yadao

Children 12 years old and below from the 16 barangays of La Trinidad will compete in a three-day sports competition from July 11 to 13 at the Benguet State University as part of the current administration’s efforts to engage children at the grassroots level in an active lifestyle.

The Philippine Sports Commission, tasked to advocate for the development and propagation of Philippine sports, partnered with the BSU in hosting the three-day sports event featuring a fun run, volleyball, basketball, and football tournaments.

The event includes three-on-three basketball and four-aside football in order to cater to all barangays and due to the constraints on the playing field.

The event will also include various indigenous sports such as kadang-kadang (racing on stilts) and sanggol (arm wrestling) and will serve as a culminating activity of the event.

BSU Director of the Institute of Human Kinetics Rex John Bawang said the event is also an opportunity for the university to strengthen their linkage with the local government and the community.

The event is a replication of the first Sports for Peace, Children’s Games in Mindanao last month, the inauguration of which happened simultaneously with the Marawi siege.
