WINNING STREAK -- Baguio’s young race drive champion Iñigo Anton sustained his winning streak by nailing his 10th overall win in the novice division by dominating the 11th leg of the National Slalom Race Tarlac Circuit Hill recently. -- Contributed photo

Young race car champion Iñigo Anton ruled the 11th leg of the National Slalom Series at the Tarlac Circuit Hill track to clinch his 10th overall win in the novice division.

The Castrol-Yokohama also inched closer to the overall title in the front wheel drive division by taking his 5th win against seasoned veterans in the sport.

The 13-year-old Baguio Achievers Academy student overcame engine problems on weekend during his practice sessions and the Mark Young-Mohspeed racing team had to work through the night to rebuild the engine. Although practice was limited due to this, the young Anton did not let that stop him from taking seven division wins and two overall class wins at the end of the day.

“I am so happy we still won in spite of all the problems we had the day before. We would have been happy just to score points today but God still blessed us with the wins,” Anton said.

The son of eight-time Automobile Association of the Philippines Driver of the Year Carlos Anton clocked 71.38 seconds around the course, almost a full three seconds faster than 2nd placer Vegil Calayo of JAF racing who checked in with 74.18 on his final run.

Thailand-bound racers Jevoy Moreno and Richard Gallardo along with Powee Base of Rennsport rounded up the top five in the front wheel drive division.

Anton now focuses on this Sunday’s eight-hour endurance race at the Clark International Speedway where he will partner his champion father Carlos, Formula 3 champion Tyson Sy, and four-time Karter of the Year Stefano Marcelo in the Parts Pro racing EG.

“I know it will be tough racing for eight hours straight but I think I have the best team mates on the grid and it should be really fun,” said the young race champion.
