NEW PBF CHAMPION -- KJ Natuplag of Ifugao (right) stopped Danilo Peña via technical knockout to capture the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight belt in the main event of Highland Brawl 2: War in the North held at the Cordillera Career and Development College gym. -- Harley Palangchao

Undefeated KJ Natuplag kept his unblemished boxing record with a six-round technical knockout of Danilo Peña to capture the vacant Phi-lippine Boxing Fede-eration featherweight belt in La Trinidad, Benguet last week.

The pride of Ifugao unleashed crisp jabs and hooks combinations all throughout the rounds and managed to defend the wild shots to his body from his 36-year-old opponent from Manila.

The combinations took toll on Peña, whose corner decided not to answer the bell at the start of the seventh round of their scheduled eight round championship bout at the Cordillera Career and Development College gymnasium.

Boxing fans cheered for Natuplag, as he tried to brawl with the older Peña in the early rounds before the Ifugao boxer recomposed himself to execute his game plan to successfully cap the event dubbed: Highland Brawl 2: War in the North.

The 21-year-old Natuplag improved his record to six wins and one draw while Peña dropped to 27 wins, 29 losses and five draws.

In the main undercards, Jules Victoriano of Baguio won via unanimous decision against Juanito Paredes of Parañaque while Jayson Nicart of Bacoor City was outclassed by Benguet boxer Brian Lobetania via fifth-round TKO.

In the four-founder bouts, Orlandino Sinaloba of La Trinidad won via majority decision against Bryan Padolina of Bacoor City, as Baguio’s Enrique Magsalin and Romeo Tenorio of Saranggani settled for a split draw.

Renalyn Dacquel of Abra stopped Kathleen Papti-e of Itogon, Benguet in just 56 seconds of the opening round of the event backed by La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, Benguet Electric Cooperative, Buyagan, La Trinidad Kagawad Joseph Bernal, Ifugao Gov. Pedro Mayam-o, and Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan.

In the amateur bouts, Esli Dhon Sac-lag of Kalinga and Jonathan Soriano of Baguio City settled for draw while Chris Caday of Buguias was defeated by Hope Ignas of Atok.

Gilbert Dionisio of La Trinidad won via unanimous decision against Eugene Tuguinay while Mark Autida of La Trinidad emerged as winner against Jones Ca-talino of Buguias via unanimous decision.

MJ Uduna of Ifugao won via TKO against Roy Domigsi while Andrea Cola of Italy scored a TKO against Judy Kimpa-oy of La Trinidad.

Chim Apopot of Kibungan edged Zak Kaiser Moga of Itogon while Christopher Miguel of Tuba defeated Bradley Delmas of La Trinidad in the first round with a TKO as Bryan Cawas of Kapangan defeated Jeffrey Kimpa-oy of La Trinidad.

The event promoted by Brico Santig and Darwin Miller Dep-ay is also supported by CCDC, Solane-MJ Gacad, and the Philippine Military Academy.
