Folayang, Kingad featured in four best fights in ONE
by Harley F. Palangchao

THE CHAMP -- ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang’s successful first title defense last April has been rated as one of the best four fights in the promotion during the first four months of 2017. -- Harley Palangchao

The display of incredible bravery and tenacity by Team Lakay fighters Eduard Folayang and Danny Kingad has put them among the four best fights ever to happen in ONE Championship in the last three months.

Folayang has defended his ONE lightweight world belt against Malaysia’s MMA superstar Ev Ting, who earlier challenged the Igorot warrior.

The 32-year-old Folayang electrified thousands of Filipino fight fans when he earned a unanimous decision victory against Ting at the Mall of Asia Arena in April with no other than Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao honoring the Pinoy MMA legend.

Folayang has showcased excellent takedown defense and well-rounded wrestling against the spirited performance by the Malaysian fighter.

Kingad, the country’s top flyweight prospect, went head-to-head against Muhammad Aiman also of Malaysia. Kingad also emerged victorious via unanimous decision to the delight of the Filipino crowd.

The fighter from Pinsao met his match in Aiman, who gave an intense duel for 15 whole minutes. The Igorot fighter, after dominating the first two rounds, had to dig deep to survive a tight submission attempt by the Malaysian.

Kingad now has five wins in ONE Championship.

Folayang and Kingad are both from Sadanga, Mountain Province.

The April event in Manila dubbed “Kings of Destiny” which featured five victorious Team Lakay fighters has overtaken the Ultimate Fighting Championship in terms of TV ratings in Asia.

The biggest MMA promotion in Asia reported that ONE’s King of Destiny held at the jampacked Mall of Asia Arena on April 21 reached 26 percent peak TV ratings, far higher than the seven percent peak when the UFC lightweight championship bout between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez in November last year.
