City athletes snare medals in All Women Martial Arts

Baguio City athletes proved their mettle in the recently staged All Women Martial Arts in their respective sporting events.

City Sports Coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said the city athletes are always expected as strong competitors in the all-women games.

Based on the list of the city sports office, the gold medalists in arnis are Hanna Wallang (individual single weapon), Izy Zyrell Pobletin (individual double weapon), Marion Lopez (individual sword dagger); and the trio of Khloei Directo, Marion Lopez, and Izy Pobletin, getting one gold each for the synchronized single event as well as the double synchronized event.

Silver medalists for arnis are Claryss Coltiyen (individual sword dagger) while the trio of Carlyn Kaye Nicole Espiritu, Hanna Wallang, and Claryss Coltiyen also settled for silver in the synchronized single and double events.

Khloei Directo (individual single weapon) and Carlyn Espiritu (individual double weapon) bagged bronze during the event.

Medalists in wushu are Mecaela Nitig, who struck gold in the 42 kg category together with Lenie Agapito in the 45-kilogram category, Vannah Leigh Ibag for the 56 kg, and Love Valeny Alsiyang, who also got gold in the 60 kg category.

Silver medalists for wushu are Krystal Yvonne Malecdan (60 kg), Cherry May Sanchez (52 kg), and Jennifer Batec (48 kg).

In taekwondo, coach Arnold Oglayon revealed his team gained eight gold medals, six silver and 13 bronze medals during the annual event.

Meanwhile, pencak silat athletes also didn’t fail to deliver medals for the city with Isay Bomugao striking gold medal, Ruth Santong and Janica Alawas both gained silver medal apiece and Lykafe Aguilar won bronze medal during the event.

The 2017 Women’s Martial Arts Festival was staged on July 26 to 27.

The annual event, held at the Harizon Plaza in Malate, Manila, is backed by the Philippine Olympic Committee and gathered young women athletes from all over the country.
