UB lady Cardinals are BBEAL back–to–back volleyball champs
by OKE

The University of Baguio lady Cardinals are back-to-back volleyball champion following their triumphant campaign in game 2 of the finals against Saint Louis University Cardinals, Friday.

The Cardinals led by team captain Roxanne Madulid and veteran Cherry Atuban finished the women’s finals in four sets before the jampacked University of the Cordilleras gym after giving in to the Navigators in set two.

The Cardinals had a good start with a solid 4-point lead against the Navigators where the latter succumbed to the Cardinals’ power spikes leading to the 17-25 point in its first set.

The Navigators led by team captain Colleen Rossi bounced back in set two compliments of their tight blocks and solid spikes throughout the set.

The Cardinals seemed to have lost their communication as they faltered to counter the attacks of Navigators who eventually won the set 24-14.

The Cardinals, courtesy of the solid defense block by Nicole Guyguyon, Belle Belsa, and Madulid, came back strong in set three with 25-12 victory and there was no turning back.

Carmella Dicksen’s powerful spikes also provided much help for the Cardinals as Rossi kept on motivating the Navigators to step up their game.

UB Cardinals’ coach Jun Nisperos said the leadership of Madulid and Atuban has motivated the younger players to play their best in the finals.

The Cardinals coach commended SLU spiker Rossi for her leadership and strength during the entire season.

SLU lady Navigators placed first runner up while UC Jaguars placed second runner-up.

The Lady Cardinals never tasted defeat in the entire season having reached the finals 7-0 before beating Benguet State University Wildcats to enter the finals.
