UB & UC bare early bids for 28th BBEAL volleyball titles
by Harley F. Palangchao

The University of Baguio lady Cardinals and University of the Cordilleras men’s Jaguars are enjoying solo leads in the elimination rounds of volleyball of the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League.

Defending champion lady Cardinals easily disposed Baguio Central University Eagles in three sets on Feb. 14 before the much awaited match against UC lady Jaguars.

Carmella Dicksen showed the way for the Cardinals as she also scored the most needed points to close the UC lady Jaguars in three sets at their home court on Sunday.

Dicksen got strong support from team captain Roxanne Madulid, Hanna Relox, Belle Belsa, and Nicole Guyguyon.

The match between UB and UC could also be a prelude to a possible match in the semi-finals.

The lady Cardinals are now enjoying an unblemished  5-0 record in the eliminations while 2013 champions Saint Louis University lady Navigators are in second place with 4-0 in current team standing.

The lady Navigators were solid in their last outing by earning a lopsided win against the University of the Philippines Baguio Maroons, 25-8, 25-16, and 25-9.

In the men’s side, defending champion Navigators suffered their first defeat in the eliminations in the hands of the men’s Cardinals on Sunday, 25-23, 27-25, 19-25, and 25-23.

The men’s Navigators and men’s Cardinals are tied in the team standing at 3-1.

The 2013 champions, men’s Jaguars are now in solo lead at 5-0 after back-to-back wins over the weekend.

The Jaguars outscored the Philippine Military Academy Cavaliers in three sets then sustained their winning streak against the Cordillera Career and Development College Admirals also in three sets the following day.

Action resumes this weekend.
