City lady golfer is best player in record–breaking MGD Cup

Lady golfer Jane Aslor topped this year’s another record-breaking Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan Golf Tournament held at Camp John Hay fairways over the weekend.

Aslor had an aggregated gross score of 81 less than her handicap of 29 for a net score of 52 to become the overall champion from the roster of 244 local and foreign players.

The 2014 edition of the MGD Cup broke last year’s record of 199 people, which is way beyond the number of players that could play in a one-day tournament.

Korean Yang Yeong Hee won the ladies Class A with a net of 61 followed by Shin Sun Young with 64 and Lee Jeom Soon with 68.

Elisa Abriol capped the championship trophy in the ladies Class B with a net 62 while Helly Henry and Joy Ribera placed second and third with net scores of 64 and 65, respectively.

In the regulars, perennial winner Fred Puckett had a net of 59 to win the Class A with the versatile young athlete Paolo Wong placing second with a net of 62 while Jeon Byeong Gu placed third.

Disc jock Joseph Pinero had a net 54 to emerge as champion of Class B while Lee Young Chul and Rommel Frencillo placed second and third with nets 58 and 59, respectively.

The regular Class C championship trophy went to Jun Tabanda with Philex lawyer Ed Aratas in second place. Police colonel Cesar Pasiwen capped the top three players in the division.

MGD Cup 2012 overall champion and retired police general VillamorBumanglag ruled the seniors’ class A with a net score of 58.

Mel Corpuz placed second with a net 70 followed by Ed Abellera with net 72.

Lawyer Ricky De Guzman ruled the seniors’ class B with net 61 followed by Ricky Rhodes and RomyPicart who had 63 and 68, respectively.

Known artist Peter Pinder made the trophy patterned after Domogan standing at the fairway in his g-string.

The event that saw the personal donation of than P800,000 to various beneficiaries drew parbusters from the city and nearby areas.

Items such as 55-inchLED television and high-end gadgets were also raffled for the participants during awarding rites.
