Mixed martial artists from Baguio are aiming on nailing impressive wins in their upcoming fights.
Inspired by Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao who recently won against Timothy Bradley, Filipino MMA sensation Eduard Folayang is also deeply rooting for a victory, like what Pacquiao delivered before legions of fans worldwide when he outpointed the previously unbeaten American boxer at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 13.
Folayang and other MMA fighters, who will see action in ONE Fighting Championship: Rise of Heroes on May 2, congratulated Pacquiao for regaining his WBO welterweight title.
Pacquiao’s victory was witnessed by his millions of fans back home to include those who lined up along Abanao Road and watched the fight via a giant screen setup by Abanao Square Mall.
Pacquiao and the MMA fighters have something in common in 2012: All of them suffered devastating losses.
Pacquiao in that year suffered a brutal knockout in the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez.
For Filipino MMA fighters, five members of Team Lakay to include Folayang and former ONE FC world featherweight champion Honorio Banario were defeated by their opponents in ONE FC: Rise to Power at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With Pacquiao winning his latest fight, Folayang together with three fighters from Team Lakay and Eugene Toquero from Manila were inspired to make a strong comeback when they face their opponents at ONE FC: Rise of Heroes on May 2.
Folayang will co-headline the ONE FC 15: Rise of Heroes against former ONE FC lightweight world champion Kotetsu Boku.
The Igorot fighter who has 13 impressive wins in 17 professional MMA fights, earned the spot for the co-main event as ONE FC credited him for his fearless fighting style and indomitable spirit.
Boku is a formidable opponent especially that his last fight against Arnaud Lepont ended up in a technical knockout in favor of the former world champion.
Boku is a more veteran fighter with an impressive 21-9-2 professional MMA record.
Rey Docyogen will be up against Joshua Alvarez of Guam in the main card.
The 31-year-old Docyogen, who has 10 wins in 12 fights, is the current Universal Reality Combat Championship pin weight champion and most feared inside the cage for his devastating kicks and endurance.
Other Filipinos in the fight card are Jujeath Nagaowa against Jeeth Toshi in the atomweight and Toquero against Gianne Subba in the flyweight division.
